01

Complex geometry, inside the standard

Two screens side by side. On the left a Grasshopper definition with the Archicad tab active over a Rhino model of a circular timber pavilion. On the right, Archicad showing the same pavilion as a dimensioned and annotated plan with a materials legend.
Fig. 01Geometry generated by definition lands in Archicad as native elements. Dimensioned, tagged and scheduled on the same sheet as everything else, which is what keeps complex form inside the standard instead of beside it.
02

What an issued set looks like

A sheet of four construction drawings: a partial apartment plan at 1:50 with a terrace drainage zone marked in red, and three annotated details at 1:20 of a linear drainage grille at a curtain wall threshold.
Fig. 02A construction detail issued at 1:20. This is the artefact an audit reads, and where sheet level overrides surface first.
An axonometric of a large courtyard housing scheme with the two construction phases coloured blue and pink, and a schedule of built area per level and per phase in the corner.
Fig. 03Phases staged inside the model. The area take off per level and per phase comes straight out of it, and goes to the sales team as issued.
03

Disciplines held apart, reviewed as one

The isolated structural model of a tapering forty level tower shown in translucent pink: floor plates, cores, the podium, and the full pile field below grade.
Fig. 04The structural consultant federated through IFC and held as its own discipline, piles to helipad.
A federated model of a public market shown in three overlaid disciplines: architecture in grey, the steel roof structure in red, and mechanical and electrical services in blue.
Fig. 07Architecture, structure and services carried in one federation. Three consultants, one model to review, one register of issues.
04

One chain of data, survey to procurement

The same floor, three times. Step through it.

A registered point cloud of a long narrow office floor, walls and slabs resolved as dense colour speckle. The same floor rebuilt as an Archicad model, cut away from above, with partitions, joinery and finishes in place. The same model with a graphic override applied: the shell drawn as pale wireframe and every piece of furniture picked out in solid crimson.

The schedule the contractor prices comes out of the same model the drawings come out of, so the count and the set cannot disagree.

05

Demolition and proposal, in one model

Drag the handle.

The proposed state of a house modelled in three dimensions.
The same house with the elements to be demolished picked out by renovation status.
To demolish Proposed

Renovation status carried on the elements themselves, so the demolition drawings and the proposal drawings come out of one file and stay in step.

05

The set, built

A concrete tower under construction against a blue sky, twelve floor plates cast, scaffolding and formwork on the upper levels, and two tower cranes standing over it.
Fig. 06Forty levels above grade, four basements, and the set is on site. Eleven drawing disciplines came out of this model, authored single handed.

The record behind the judgement

Eighteen months of construction documentation, six concurrent projects. This is what I draw on when I review your models, rather than what I am selling you.
